Disappointing men, specifically Italians.

Well my boyfriend's having his amazing birthday bash tonight and obviously me stuck in England and him being in beautiful Spain, I can't be there with him. It's okay and I hope he has fun but can't say the distance makes me happy. So for tonight, I've decided to open a bottle of red, put on Sweeney Todd and sit here in my dressing gown and lots of tissues. A bit of an anti-man evening if I say so myself because after hearing a few stories from friends today, I'm even more so disappointed in men; not Petr though, I love him and in my eyes he can't do anything wrong... But enough of that; let me enjoy Johnny Depp, some vino and my rants about men.

First of all, after being ill today, I didn't consider that I'd be on the phone to a close friend for over 3 hours about a break up today. They were so happy, damn, I saw them together a mere few weeks ago and they couldn't look more perfect. Yet now, he's just ended it and she's besides herself. Jo has always been a young one, this was her first real relationship, the flings and the sex prior to this doesn't count, there were feelings involved here and her and Bertie seemed so happy. They'd been together one year, more or less and now he just said good bye and it's over. Without warning. She's devastated so she's gone to stay with her dad at the Isle of Wight for a few days but nonetheless, I don't see how he could just do that to her.

Anyway, onto the main issue of the evening; something to really make me think about why and how certain specifics about men are the way they are. It could be genetics, it could be upbringing but the one thing us women, still wish to figure out is:

WHY ARE ITALIAN MEN SO DANGEROUS?
Beautiful, yet not too pretty. Daring but still secure. Loving but a challenge.

Jenny called me today angry; she moaned at me because I kept telling her to be vulnerable and let herself like a guy because it's worth the risk. What I didn't know was that this man was clearly a wrong one to fall for. 100% Italian, the whole package. 'Ciao bella!!' was the first thing he ever said to her. The type of guy you imagine in girl romance novels and if I'm honest even when it all ended badly, I still have a strong opinion that she doesn't regret meeting him because she 'got to bed such a beautiful boy' as quoted by her. It's funny really though, she set out to have a fling with this boy but ended up head over heels in less than 5 days, I mean surely that's almost impossible. They barely knew each other and she had her defences up so high that I cant imagine the huge slippery slope she slid down due to his charm. According to her story, they didn't even talk much from the beginning yet they had so much in common (contradiction), apparently he just kept staring at her intensely which was mysterious yet he was so funny and his body language was so friendly that he didn't seem up himself whatsoever (again, contradiction, that makes no sense). Apparently they didn't know each other more than a day when he asked her out dancing (Latin trick) and they just spent the entire night enjoying each others company but nothing happened. They then saw each other every day, just for a little while but he bought her drinks, chocolate, wrote her little cheeky notes (who does that a few weeks into knowing someone?) and by 3 weeks she had the biggest crush on him, not even a crush anymore, she really genuinely liked him. A first for Jenny. Then one night, they went out dancing again but she was vulnerable, had too much to drink and he took advantage of this. She ended up sleeping with him, which pretty much sealed the deal for her; she thought this meant that he liked her too and wanted to be with her. BUT NO!! They slept together two nights, she said that it was so perfect, something about the way he kissed? That apparently it was different from anyone she'd kissed before, which isn't the smallest number, 'so tender & passionate' (yuk). Yes I am quoting her because due to not having this 'amazing experience' with an Italian, I am apparently clueless. Of course, a few days later, he left her another one of his notes saying that he couldn't carry on like this (like what exactly?) and that he hoped they could still keep in touch when he went back to Italia etc etc. She knows that this was all an act as she's almost certain that she won't be hearing from him again. She's now completely lost trust because she's completely humiliated.

Myself, I don't see it. Of course in romantic films and series, Italian men are to die for but it didn't seem like that to me when I met a bunch whilst in Spain. Take two specific examples: Petr's room mate Simone, yeah sure he was cute, I could see what girls saw in him but he didn't seem to have much success at all (confidence also being a contributing factor- he had none!!) But anyway, I wouldn't fall head over heels for him if I saw him in a club, if anything it would be his personality but what I mean is where is the all famous Italian charm at first impression? It wasn't there, only his genuineness once I got to know him but that's a trait of men in general, not Italians. Surely Jenny's argument of; ' All Italian men who look at all decent can get any woman as it's their way of life.' is just not applicable in this situation. It brings me back to my question of, why do Italians seem so special to women all across the world?

Here's a picture, judge for yourselves, I just don't see it...
(he's the one on the left)

Another case is a guy I met called Francesco, he has the tall, dark Italian genetics however he just doesn't seem to take care of himself much and it shows. He has a girlfriend though so I'm only happy for him HOWEVER he seems so closed up that it's only once he's established you don't want to sleep with him, he'll talk to you.. From the beginning, I found it a little intimidating if anything therefore why any girl would approach him after his mysterious unfriendliness without being a bit of a psycho? I don't get, I'd be too scared to approach him and I can't really see him being the type of guy to approach a girl straight away. Okay, let's not get my opinion mixed up because once you get to know him; he's a smart, funny guy; very sarcastic which is even funnier however, it's not a great first impression which is what Jenny was talking about with the 'Italian Charm theory'.

Francesco... I don't know. He's not ugly, just sans the Italian Charm...

What gets me is how all those tricks could work? Is it something to do with the Italian accent, body language? What made him so different to others so that he could get Jenny in such a state? She's such a strong girl. But his ways just caught her completely off guard. The Italian culture, the gorgeous food, amazing culture, unique scenery; hot and cold climates. The most romantic places in the world. Why and where did this lovers' reputation begin? What about France? Why are the French not as charming as the Italians? Why do women get wooed into bed so easily by the Italian Romanticisms when France is supposedly the country of love; the Eiffel Tower, Moulin Rouge... I guess from a young age Italian men are brought up to be the strong hero figure yet not to forget their sensitive side which other cultures don't do. Undoubtedly, it's a lot to do with the language itself because as we all know, Italian is beautiful. In my opinion much more so than anything else about the country, including the men.

The point here isn't final, I want to find out more about this. Maybe speak to one of the Italian boys above, maybe they'd be willing to help explain why they think of themselves so superior to others. I can't wait to her their opinions because yes, they will be extremely biased however, it will be an imaginable laugh and in no doubt, a very interesting and insightful blog entry will appear from this. I quite like this topic; something to think about for some time yet not get emotionally involved. It's not like this has happened to me, then it may bring up emotions, thoughts etc: set my mind off. Whilst this, this is just an interesting discursive topic for which knowledge will come from my friends experiences, not mine.

Hey boy I really wanna see if you can go a long time with a girl like me.

Ooh na na, what’s my name
Ooh na na, what’s my name
Ooh na na, what’s my name
Ooh na na, what’s my name
Ooh na na, what’s my name
Whats my name, whats my name

I heard you good with them soft lips
Yeah you know word of mouth
The square root of 69 is 8 something
Cuz I’ve been tryna work it out, oooow
Good weed, white wine
I come alive in the night time
Okay, away we go
Only thing we have on is the radio
Ooooh, let it play, say you gotta leave
But I know you wanna stay
You just waiting on the track to finish girl
The things we could do in twenty minutes girl
Say my name, say my name
Wear it out, its getting hot, crack a window, air it out
I can get you through a mighty long day
Soon as I go the text you gon right is gonna say…

Not everybody knows how to work my body
Knows how to make me want it
Boy you stay up on it
You got that something that keeps me so off balance
Baby you’re a challenge, lets explore your talent

Hey boy I really wanna see if you can go a long time with a girl like me
Hey boy, I really wanna be with you
Cause you just my type
Ooh na na na na
I need a boy to take it over
Looking for a girl to put you over
Oooooh, oooooh

Hey boy I really wanna see if you can go a long time with a girl like me
Hey boy, I really wanna be with you
Cause you just my type
Ooh na na na na
I need a boy to take it over
Looking for a girl to put you over
Oooooh, oooooh

Ooh na na, what’s my name
Ooh na na, what’s my name
Ooh na na, what’s my name
Whats my name, whats my name

Baby you got me, aint nowhere that I’d be
Then with your arms around me
Back and forth you rock me
So I surrender, to every word you whisper
Every door you enter, I will let you in

Hey boy I really wanna see if you can go a long time with a girl like me
Hey boy, I really wanna be with you
Cause you just my type
Ooh na na na na
I need a boy to take it over
Looking for a girl to put you over
Oooooh, oooooh

You’re so amazing, you took the time to figure me out
Thats why you take me, way past the point of turning me on
You bout to break me, I swear you got me losing my mind

Ooh na na, what’s my name
Ooh na na, what’s my name

Ooh na na, what’s my name
Ooh na na, what’s my name
Ooh na na, what’s my name
Whats my name, whats my name

In case of real emergency: call friend (NOT 999)

It may be something to do with Christmas, it may not and although I have nothing to write about, I just want to publish something today. Just a distraction for working, that's what my subconsciousness tells me.

Wow a muse has just come up in the form of a phone call; I just got a call from a close friend who had just almost been stabbed. He was returning from uni, reasonably 11 o'clock on a Saturday night is late but nonetheless he comes from a safe area therefore something like this would never happen but he knows how to deal with muggings etc as he's constantly in London. But when a drunken hooligan was harassing him on the train and then when he got off the train, he pulled out a knife on him and threatened to kill him; it turned out to be a little too much to handle.

He called me and I could hear his voice shaking and I knew something had gone seriously wrong, he was absolutely petrified. We told me what had happened briefly and seemed to be over it pretty soon but none the less admitting his fear and being shaken up it such a big deal for him because he is never normally shaken by any nearby criminal activity.
The bottom line for me though was that he called me. Not the police. It just seems ridiculous that there is so little trust in the services these days, people would rather call a friend than a police officer. He wouldn't even call after to warn them or this dangerous, potentially fatal, man roaming through the streets of Canterbury because he knew they would do nothing about it. They would note it all down in official records however never send a true officer to check and protect the public. Why is there such a lack of trust in public services? Why do people feel they are better off committing crime themselves as a defence than calling the police?

This is where my legal mind takes me back to all the principles and Acts that have been passed to protect the public; to enable them to feel safe without having to carry weapons or commit criminal acts or take special measures to feel safe in their every day lives. The Public Act was updated back in the 1990's especially for this and every year there are new restrictions for personal use of weapons The Dangerous Weapons Act 2004 being the most significant. Young people are most at risk, they want to feel safe but truly they don't. A prime example of this is what happened to Kayle and another example is that I live in the safest neighbourhood in the whole of England yet I'm scared of walking home from college in the dark and never go anywhere on my own unless it's the middle of the day. It just seems absurd to me that the police are so helpless right now and things are only bound to get worse; the public cuts are affecting the police sector by several billion pounds. There are so many victims every day just due to recklessness with weapons and the public are scared, yes SCARED to contact their only hope. There are going to be fewer police forces with a higher crime rate as people will see nothing better but to turn to crime to protect themselves. This is not leading towards a brighter future after the next 10 daunting, despite what the Conservatives have been promising. This is leading towards a downfall of this country because our labour government of Brownites has been putting off repaying our debt and now it is too late. Despite us 'tightening our belts' as David Cameron has repeated in his speeches over and over these past months.

The rising crime rates, especially of antisocial behaviour and weapon related crime and robbery, have been increasing, devaluing the huge downfall in rape, murder, manslaughter; both voluntary and involuntary. Nobody sees how much of an achievement this is for the UK, the statistics of graver crimes are decreasing yet our country is still slipping further and further into an economic depression. How will Mr Cameron & Mr Clegg solve this hurdle of their beloved country?

SLUTEVER: guilty pleasure or sick blog?

Last week, during a night with the girls and a few glasses of wine; conversation moved on to men and sex as usual however the topic had an interesting twist. My friend showed me this amazingly interesting blog http://karleywhatever.squarespace.com/ . A bit twisted, that I have to admit, but none the less, ever so interesting. It really humbles my blogs; I wish I had the guts to discuss my sex life so openly and have such 'out there' debates about fetishes, sexual partners etc. Despite not being able to begin to compare myself to Karley; we all have a bit of her inside us in my opinion (no innuendos intended please) but we all learn to hide this side of us under the numerous rationalisations of every day life. She actually researches her topics and has a variety unlike my one sided rants. Although one big difference is the style of our lives; I'm a law student who used to do the whole drugs scene but grew out of it before 18; wouldn't ever dream of starting again, where as it's part of a daily routine for her; fuck it, why not?

It's pretty fucked up though; the kinda thing you want to look at when you're in a mood to be completely weirded out. I mean look at the pictures people send to her which she then puts up? I just don't get it; it must be purely for entertainment value (money's a nice bonus though). But I mean why would you do this? It's just not a pretty picture whatsoever.. She also has numerous sex slaves that she writes about; both from far and near but they basically finance her life; interesting way of maintaing her trend setters' lifestyle.

I do have to admit though, some of her less controversial entries make for a good read (actually all of them do!), there are entries about fashion, people, lifestyle; what to do and not to do according to Karley. From lesbian fetishes to 1st lady pearl accessories. Her style of writing is another thing; it's just to humourous! She even rememebrs the conversations with friends with all their glorious explicity...

F:“I got raped last night.”
K:“Oh really? Who was it this time?”
F:“I don’t know, some horrible girl. She was sooo old as well. Like 29.”
K:“That is so fucking old.”
F:“I know.”
K:“Felix, do you ever think you might be confusing being raped with sleeping with someone you don’t actually like?”
F:“Um, I don’t know, maybe. Is there a difference?”
K:“I think there is, yeah.”
F:“Oh.”

A casual roommate conversation! Or this whole blog entry in general, it's genious!!

Slutever is definitely not my cup of tea for a friend figure however when drunk, with the girls and up for a giggle and interesting conversation, this is the place to go to. I don't know why I've dedicated a blog to her, sh'es artistically brilliant and INSANE, however I think she deserves credit for being brave enough to stand out, ignore all the abuse she gets for this and just take the compliments and admirers gained.

Her approach to life?
'Life is too short to not live it. Fuck it!'

Not all bad really, is it? Some of us could take a little from this, relax and enjoy ourselves a little without worrying about everything and anything.

Stop.

Stop doubting him and stop doubting me. Stop telling me he's cheating or will cheat. Stop making me feel like I'm not worthy or good enough. You know how much I value your opinion on these things so why would you purposely do this to me? You know how scared I am of trusting anyone and be this vulnerable so stop making me think aout things that aren't going to happen. You're supposed to love me, I'm you child. Stop hurting me with your pointless, 'meant to be funny' remarks all the time; they're only painful.

Thanks mother,

Péta, milácek.

I actually love you so much.

You are perfect for me, never forget it. I don't ever want to be without you and I'm sure of it. I'm so scared... so scared of the vulnerability, the trust, the future; but it's a good scared, nothing to worry about. It's the kind of adrenaline rush that you love. You still give me butterflies when I think of you, even after all these months I still think the absolute world of you, so much more than before. Every day, I know this is what I want more and more; I don't even know how to describe it. I feel like a whole different person being with you, a better me. It's always you.
